University of York

The University of York was opened in 1963 and has, since then expanded to over 12,000 students with over 30 academic departments and associated research centres.

York and Cambridge top the teaching league with the highest scores in official teaching assessments. York is rated in the top 10 of the 172 Higher Education institutions for research and is in the top 100 of the World University ranking.

The University has approximately 2000 members of academic and support staff and over 15,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students. Its key activities are teaching, research and knowledge transfer/business spinout.

The University is committed to excellence in teaching and research activities and has won a number of Queen's Awards for support to Industry. All academic departments are academically administered through a Board of Studies which reports to a University wide Teaching Committee. These bodies ensure that all academic programmes conform to our high quality standard and comply with best practice in the specification, design, delivery and review.
